Surgery Is Required For Back Pain Patients With Poor Response To Physical Therapy And Medications

Opioid medications are used as painkillers for back pain and other conditions. However, their continued use can be addictive to the level that many people say that it constitutes a crisis. In case there were no positive results with physical therapy and medication, the only treatment for back pain in surgery. However, there is still a possibility that the patient will continue the use of opioids, either because there is residual back pain, or because there is an addiction problem. The predictor of this behavior is the duration of the opioid medication treatment before the surgery. According to studies, half of the people who have to go through a surgical procedure to treat back pain have been using opioids before the surgery, and of these, 20% are possibly addicted to them. These medications also increase the risk of complications and negative outcome in the surgery.
