Causes Of Degenerative Disk Disease
Spinal Disks Work As Shock Absorbers But Might Lose Its Properties With Age
The spine is composed of the bones, called vertebrae and disks located between the vertebrae, which act as shock absorbers. The disks are composed of a stiff outer layer, which contains a jelly-like substance. On young people, the jelly is 90% water and there is no contact with nerve endings or blood vessels. However, as people get older, the jelly becomes stiffer, the disk gets thinner and nerve fibers can get into cracks in the disks. In this case, the pressure on the nerve results in back pain. In other cases, in younger people, the disk might get ruptured and the jelly presses a nerve, resulting in a disk hernia. Also, in elders, the disks may flatten and cause more pressure on the joints of the vertebrae. Check all the cases of disk degeneration. Additional info click here.
