Researchers Are Using Magnetic Fields For Treating Chronic Pain

Researchers Are Using Magnetic Fields For Treating Chronic Pain

The Magnetic Field Caused The Neurons To Decrease Pain Signaling

Chronic pain treatment and back pain are usually oriented to physical therapy and medications. However, painkiller drugs are based on opioids, must be used for a limited time, because they can cause addiction. If the pain still continues, an alternative is surgery. However, researchers are using magnetic fields to treat chronic pain, reducing the pain signaling within the neurons. To do this, they have designed a hydrogel, which includes magnetic particles and laboratory-grown neurons. This hydrogel contains hyaluronic acid, a molecule capable of retaining water and is linked to skin moisture and skin aging. This molecule is also present between the cells in the brain and in the spinal cord. The researchers filled the gel with small magnetic particles and grew a special type of brain cell inside it. When applying a magnetic field to the gel, the neurons reacted to it reducing the pain signaling. When the brain returned to a stable state, it adapted itself to the magnetic stimulus by decreasing the pain signaling. Click here for more information.
