Avoiding Exercise While Suffering From Sciatica Will Worsen This Condition

Sciatica is a condition that occurs with the inflammation, irritation or pinching of the sciatic nerve. This is the longest nerve in the body, which goes from the base of the spine, through the buttocks, and to the big toe. The vertebrae can press against the nerve, and the pain may appear in the lower back, the leg, the calf, or the foot. The pain can be a show as a burning sensation, a sharp pain, tingling, or even an electric shock. It is treated with pain medications, and in the case that the nerve is pressed by a herniated intervertebral disk, the usual treatment is surgery. Sciatica will cause pain when moving, so the sufferer might decide to rest and avoid movement. This is a bad idea because the muscles and joints tend to stiffen and lose strength without exercise. The solution is gradual movement and low-impact activity. Long-term pain as a result of excess tension in the spinal nerves will lead to an incorrect posture over time.
